South Carolina's Morris Island Lighthouse (Old
Charleston Light) was built in 1876. Decommissioned in 1962 due to the
relentless encroachment of ocean tides, the beacon stubbornly stands
vigilant on little more than a sandbar at low tide. Efforts to preserve and
renovate the light are ongoing by Save the Light, Inc. For more info go to
